Geez it was warm today! Thankfully we get the nice breezes and can cool off!

Today we had excursion for Cooroy Oshc. Nearly 50 having a go a pumping yabbies and helping to drag the bait net.

They caught whiting, mullet and silver biddies in the net.

I still get a kick out of watching the kids excitement when they catch a fish all by themselves. Today it was the 27cm bream! the fisherman who caught it, was no more than 6 yrs old and he lovingly released it to get bigger for next time.

It was good to see so many different groups of people out and about today. From dog walkers, families, bird watchers and kite surfers and people fishing of course.

Our activity today started, as always, with a chat about the various creatures, fish and a few fishing rules. This was a Chill Out activity for 10-17yr olds.

The kids helped to drag the net and caught heaps of gar, bream, mullet, hardyhead, whiting, a happy moment and a baby queenfish.

A couple of the kids hooked up long tom, with both fish putting on a display for everyone and jumping out of the water.
An undersized tarwhine was caught by one excited young lad.

This activity is funded by the Brisbane City Councils Active and Healthy program.

We had such a great time with the kids.
Yabbby pumping is the most popular part of the excursions.

Our award winning excursions run for 5hrs so the kids (and centres) can get the most out of the day. The kids also helped to drag the bait net and after identifying the catch, released them.

If you are a teacher or educator and would like your kids to have this experience, please get in touch, we run these programs all year!It looks like the children from Catholic Early EdCare's vacation care are reel-y hooked on learning about marine life! Here are some photos of Guardian Angel’s vacation care with a team from 2 Bent Rods learning how to pump for yabbies and use these as bait for fishing, and another day spent visiting Shark and Ray Gardens meeting Doug, a shovel nose shark and Michelle, a small Epaulette shark plus many more rays.
